Thanks for working here Thursday: Vickie Balo, Heptner Cancer Center

Campbell County Health is proud of its employees, and we want the CCH family and the Campbell County community to know about the good work that they do for this organization.

Have you met Vickie Balo, the CCH Heptner Cancer Center Radiation Oncology Clinic Coordinator? If not, then you’re in for a treat. Vickie has worked at CCH for more than eight years—before she was at the Cancer Center, she was in Rehabilitation Services. Vickie says that she has always wanted to help people and she really enjoys making a difference in the lives of others. And we have proof: In April 2014, Vickie was named CHH’s Employee of the Month for showing kindness to a patient in Rehab. Vickie went above and beyond her duties with an aquatic client, purchasing a new swimming suit with her own money for the patient to use while in therapy. So, as you can see, she’s always been a star employee! We asked Vickie what she likes most about working at CCH, and what excellence every day means to her. Check out her response:

“I enjoy having to ability to grow, evolve, and better myself. I love that there are so many opportunities to better yourself through education—this organization is so supportive of employees to grow and continue to learn. In my department, I enjoy getting to know each and every patient that we have and to build relationships with them. In Radiation Oncology, we see our patients five days a week during treatment and we become a part of their daily routine. We have such a great team and the atmosphere is welcoming for not only us as co-workers but more importantly for our patients. We all work together to give the best possible care.

For me, excellence every day means being the best version of yourself that you can be. It means being compassionate and empathetic and truly taking time to listen when you interact with someone. It’s taking time to smile in hallways when you make eye contact and offering a hug or a touch on the shoulder when someone is scared or upset. It really does only take a moment to make a difference and I firmly believe that it’s the little things in life that matter most.”

Thank you, Vickie, for always showing kindness and compassion to patients at CCH. We are so proud to have you as a member of our team.
