There have been some beautiful days in Gillette, Wyoming lately; and that likely means that there are more people, especially children, out on bikes. Before you pull your bike—or your child’s—out of the garage this summer, Safe Kids Campbell County encourages you to check out these three bike safety tips to help you and your loved ones stay safe!
Wear a helmet. According to Safe Kids Worldwide, properly fitted helmets can reduce the risk of head injuries by at least 45 percent. A head injury can often mean a brain injury, that's why it's so important to wear a bike helmet. Check out this Safe Kids Safety in Seconds: Bike Helmets video to learn how you can properly fit a bike helmet for your child, and yourself.
Be seen to be safe. Before you go out for your bike ride ask yourself: Can drivers see me? Consider wearing bright colored clothes, and make sure reflectors or lights are on your bike (and clothing) to help you be seen. And make sure you take extra precautions when riding at night and in the morning.
Follow the rules of the road. Ride on the sidewalk, and if you can’t make sure that you ride in the same direction as traffic on the right-hand side of the road. Obey all traffic control devices (lanes, lights, signs, etc.). Learn and use hand signals before you move or stop to let drivers and others on the road know what you intend to do.

And, drivers, please be aware that children are walking, biking, skateboarding and much more, so please slow down and keep your head up, and your phone down.
