1. Is there a difference between purchasing and renting equipment?
Medicare approves some durable medical equipment items for purchase while others must be rented. If an item is purchased and is covered by Medicare, you may also be entitled to repairs and replacement parts.
2. How long can I use the equipment?
When you rent, you can keep the item for as long as it is medically necessary with the physician’s order. Home Medical Resources facilitates repairs or replacement parts for the rented item.
3. How long should I rent equipment or should I purchase it?
Your option whether to rent or purchase may depend on your insurance coverage. If the item is a high-maintenance item, the insurance company may decide it would be in its best interest to continue to rent. If you are on Medicare, there are rules under the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA) laws that must be followed. In a private pay situation, it is the customer’s choice.
