September Employee Kudos

Campbell County Health would like to acknowledge our fantastic staff’s successes, the things they do – large and small – in the organization, in the community and beyond that make CCH a great place for our patients and employees. Congratulations to the following in September 2014:

Courtney Anderson to serve on national advisory board
Courtney Anderson, LPN for CCMG Pulmonology, has been selected to participate in the Alpha-1 Advisory Board Meeting in Dallas, Texas on October 24-25. The advisory board is sponsored by Grifols, a global healthcare company who produces protein therapies for patients by providing hospitals, pharmacies and healthcare professionals with the products they need to deliver expert medical care.

The board members will give their input on patient and caregiver experiences with the treatment of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, a genetic deficiency present in the lungs of some COPD patients. CCMG does testing for alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, and treats patients with an infusion of a medication called prolastin that slows down the progression and lessens the symptoms of COPD.

Courtney was one of only 13 selected for the national advisory board, and was very surprised to receive the notice.

“I didn’t think someone from a little clinic in Wyoming would be picked,” said Courtney. “I’ve done a lot of research about this since coming to work for the clinic, and I’m excited to bring information about our patients to this meeting.”

Tracy Wasserburger elected to NANNP Council
Tracy Wasserburger, APRN, was recently elected to the National Association of Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NANNP) Council, the organization’s national governing body. The Council is composed of eight neonatal nurse practitioners from across the United States, elected from seven geographic regions. NANNP strives to improve care to neonates, infants and their families by providing a forum for neonatal nurse practitioners’ communication on clinical and professional practice issues, education, advocacy and research.

Tracy was nominated by her peers in the western region, and will serve a four-year term on the Council. She is a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and Hospitalist at Campbell County Health. She is honored to be elected to serve, and is looking forward to helping with the Council’s work on developing competency standards for her profession.

Lorna Thomas accepts Employer Support of the Guard and Reserves Award
Lorna Thomas, RN, Care Transitions RN at Campbell County Health, recently accepted an Employer Support of Guard and Reserves Award on behalf of the CCH Emergency Department (ED). The award, given by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, was presented to Lorna during her tenure as Manager of the ED, for creating a supportive and patriotic work environment for members of the military. Lorna and ED were nominated by Cliff Knesel, ED Tech and veteran. Lorna and the department helped Cliff continue to work in the ED by scheduling shifts around several military deployments. The award was presented September 18 and a plaque will be displayed in the CCH Emergency Department.

Dr. Hartsaw to present at regional Surgical Quality Forum
Dr. Sara Hartsaw, general surgeon and CCH Board Chair, was invited to participate in the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Surgical Quality Forum, Mountain Region, at the University of Utah on October 3. The forum will bring together area health care leaders including policymakers, surgeons representing Utah academic medical centers, medical schools and regional hospitals, and other patient advocates to identify quality improvement initiatives and best practices that measurably improve health care quality and increase value. Dr. Hartsaw will be an active participant in the question and answer portion of the forum, discussing the them, “Health Care Value Elevated”. Dr. Hartsaw looks forward to sharing CCH’s quality initiatives and the physician perspective of a surgeon in practice at a rural hospital.
