Meet Dr. Nathan Simpson, the April Provider of the Month

Meet Nathan Simpson, M.D. Dr. Simpson is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery and specializes in spine surgery at Wyoming Orthopedics & Spine (WYOS). He joined the medical staff in 2000. Dr. Simpson attended medical school at the University of Texas in San Antonio, completed an orthopedic residency at the University of Kansas and a Fellowship in spine surgery at the Texas Back Institute.

Dr. Simpson's interest in medicine began in childhood, and he chose orthopedics because of the challenge involved; a love of putting broken things back together and helping people walk again.

The biggest changes Dr. Simpson has seen in his field are the technological advances that make surgery less invasive, enabling patients to return to work and daily activities much more quickly. He was one of the first surgeons to perform outpatient anterior (front approach) cervical fusion. What's also changed is the formality of the doctor patient relationship. Instead of introducing himself as 'Dr. Simpson', he now meets patients as 'Nate Simpson'.

When he's not practicing medicine, Dr. Simpson has a passion for flying. His father was a navy flier in the Pacific in WWII , and he wanted to become a fighter pilot himself out of college. Dr. Simpson has flown aircraft since his college days, and one of his fondest memories was flying a WWII -era B-24 bomber during an air show in Gillette several years ago.

Dr. Simpson also loves to travel, both overseas and in the United States. His other hobbies include deep-sea fishing and scuba diving.
