Behavioral Health Services Opens Adolescent Inpatient Unit

Behavioral Health Services (BHS) at Campbell County Health (CCH) is now able to provide inpatient psychiatric services for adolescents ages 13-18. The completion of a 10-month remodeling project now enables CCH to meet state regulations for the physical separation of adult and adolescent patients. The new two-bed unit has the ability to expand to four beds if needed and is adjacent to the adult inpatient unit on the fifth floor of Campbell County Health.

"The increase in the rate of depression and other behavioral health issues in adolescents both regionally and nationally makes It even more important to be able to provide this care locally", said Jeff Rice, BHS Director. "For instance, depression in our adolescents has increased 18% in the last 10 years. Bipolar Disorder is being diagnosed at a rate almost 400% greater than just a short time ago and our college students are accessing mental health care exceeding 16% just a decade earlier. With the continued growth in our community we will keep monitoring and assessing our current array of services to meet identified needs".

BHS staff consists of Licensed Professional Counselors in both the Behavioral Health Unit and at the Campbell County Medical Group Kid Clinic, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, an array of Case Managers, a Physician Assistant, a Board Certified Psychiatrist, and several psychiatrists providing community support through telemedicine technology. BHS also has qualified support staff to help with all other aspects of a patients' experience.
