Campbell County Health is proud of its employees, and we want the CCH family and the Campbell County community to know about the good work that they do for this organization.
Meet Deb McMurtrey, RN, who has been with the Campbell County Health Medical/Surgical Unit for 30 years! WOW. Deb's inspiration to become a nurse came as a child when she watched her grandmother receive care from nurses in a small Nebraska hospital where they lived. "I was determined that I would be smarter and kinder than the nurses my grandma had," she said. Working in one unit for 30 years is quite an accomplishment, and Deb says a nurse who works in Med/Surg must be knowledgeable about all age groups, from infants to geriatrics—she also says that this aspect also makes it a challenge because of the variety of the patients on the unit. We asked Deb what excellence every day means to her. Check out her response:
"I love that CCH embraces excellence every day. To me, this means: making eye contact and smiling at everyone you meet, and giving a patient or a family member a hug and thanking them for letting us take care of them. Every once-in-a-while, I hear a patient or family member ask, "Does Deb McMurtrey still work here?" That means that I made a difference, and they are willing to come back to our facility and trust us to do a great job. This should be the goal of everyone at CCH—giving that extra bit to make a difference. Dr. Patel gave me some good advice years ago: the patient doesn't care how many degrees you have, they just want you to smile and show that you care."
Deb also has some advice she'd like to leave us with: "The best way to be happy in your job is to get involved and engaged, and help make changes that are the best for everyone."
Deb, thank you for your dedication to the CCH family and the patients that you care for every day. We are proud to have you on our team.
