CCH Physician Receives Board Certification in Orthopaedic Surgery
- Posted On:
GILLETTE, WY – Stanford Israelsen, Orthopaedic surgeon at Wyoming Orthopedics & Spine (WYOS), a Campbell County Medical Group clinic; recently earned Board Certification from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS).
Dr. Israelsen joins WYOS physicians Dr. Hans Kioschos and Dr. Nathan Simpson, who are board certified in orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Robert Grunfeld is board eligible for certification.
Board certification is a voluntary program in which specialists seek to improve their performance and demonstrate a commitment to their profession. To be eligible for board certification, Dr. Israelsen successfully completed a five-year residency program in orthopaedic surgery and passed the rigorous ABOS computer-based examination, encompassing all facets of orthopaedic surgery.
Two years later Dr. Israelsen’s clinical competence was evaluated through a credentialing process called ABOS Part II, an oral examination. Experienced surgeons selected 12 of Dr. Israelsen’s surgical cases performed over a recent six-month period and evaluated specific skills such as data gathering and interpretive skills, diagnostic skills, treatment expertise, technical skills, patient outcomes and applied orthopaedic and medical knowledge.
After passing both the written and oral examinations, Dr. Israelsen is considered Board Certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, or a diplomate of the ABOS. The certification is valid for 10 years, and then the diplomate must complete a recertification process, which includes an exam, peer review and continuing education.
The ABOS was founded in 1934 as a private, voluntary, nonprofit, independent organization to serve the best interests of the public and medical profession. The ABOS establishes standards for the education of orthopaedic surgeons and evaluates these standards through examinations and practice evaluations.
