Safe Kids Campbell County offers two more booster, car seat checks

Make sure your kid is riding safe on September 24 and 26
GILLETTE, WY – Safe Kids Campbell County is hosting two more booster and car seat checks for our community on Monday, September 24 and Wednesday September 26. The events take place from 1-5 pm at the Campbell County Health Emergency Medical Services Base, 502 Stocktrail Avenue in Gillette, Wyoming. Contact Safe Kids Campbell County at 307-688-SAFE (7233)—appointments aren’t required.

At these events, residents can have a certified child passenger safety technician check their child’s booster seat or car seat to make sure it is up to date and installed properly with no recalls. Thanks to a very generous grant by Graco, Safe Kids Campbell County will have car seats and booster seats available for those in need, making sure that every child will leave safer than they arrived. Supplies are limited.

Participants are asked to bring the child, their current car seat and the vehicle that they normally travel in for the check. Inspection time is around 30 minutes.

Guidelines issued by the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2011 recommend that kids use a booster seat until they are at least 4’9” tall (57 inches) and weigh between 80 and 100 pounds. Children seated in a booster seat in the back seat of the car are 45% less likely to be injured in a crash than children using a seat belt alone. According to Wyoming Child Restraint Laws, children must be in a child restraint (car seat or booster seat) until they are 9 years old.

Safe Kids Campbell County provides the Campbell County, Wyoming community with free car seat checks and much more to help educate our children on preventing accidental injuries.
