GILLETTE, WY – Campbell County Health (CCH) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Paramedic Shawna Cochran, EMT-P, received the Rising Star Award at the Wyoming Department of Health Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) 49th Annual Trauma and Emergency Medical Services Conference in August 2019.
Shawna was nominated by State EMS Director Andy Gienapp, and CCH EMS Director Chris Beltz for her work on developing the community EMS program for CCH. Community EMS is a healthcare model that allows paramedic and emergency medical technicians EMTs) to operate in expanded roles by assisting with public health, primary healthcare and preventive services to underserved populations in the community. The Community EMS program is scheduled to begin next spring.
“I am super excited that Shawna is the recipient of the Rising Star Award this year,” said CCH EMS Director Chris Beltz, who was a 2018 recipient of the award. “Shawna is an EMS Supervisor and in charge of all vehicle and equipment maintenance as well as our Community EMS (CEMS) program. Thanks to Shawna’s hard work and leadership, we have a reliable fleet of trucks and equipment, and we will have a CEMS program in place in our community by June 2020.”
The Wyoming Office of Emergency Medical Services created the Rising Star Award in 2017 to recognize those in the Wyoming EMS community who have stepped forward and contributed significantly to the development of Wyoming’s EMS in the past year. The award is presented to a newer EMS provider (licensed less than five years) in recognition of contributions to emergency medical services during the past year. The award acknowledges and celebrates innovation, leadership, new methods and approaches, and a refusal to be satisfied with the status quo.
