Thanks for working here Thursday: Carrie Virgil, CCH Heptner Cancer Center

Campbell County Health is proud of its employees, and we want the CCH family and the Campbell County community to know about the good work that they do for this organization.

Allow us to introduce Carrie Virgil, RN, ADN, who works at the Heptner Cancer Center in Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming. Carrie earned her nursing degree from Gillette College and has been with CCH for five years. She was inspired to work in health care because she has always had a heart for taking care of people. “I have been interested in the medical field for years. However, I did not pursue my dream until my family was raised,” she said.

Carrie calls all of the nurses in the Cancer Center her healthcare heroes. “They have all been a huge influence on me—they took me in not only as a new employee but as a new nurse. I have learned many different things from each of them and still do,” she says.

When Carrie isn’t at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and five grandbabies (and their parents, of course). They enjoy camping, walking, or doing most anything outside.

We asked Carrie what she likes most about working for CCH, and what excellence every day means to her. Check out her response:

“I love working in the Oncology department at the Heptner Cancer Center. My favorite thing about working in the Cancer Center is the connection we make with our patients and their families—they become our family. I am proud to work at an organization that continually looks for ways to make improvements for our community, our patients, and our staff.

For me, ‘excellence every day’ means to come to work each day with a positive attitude and a smile, and provide safe, efficient care for our patients. It also means to take the time to notice when the patient and/or family needs me to take the time to sit down, and offer an ear to listen or a hug.”
