CCH Employee Earns Registered Strength and Conditioning Specialist

GILLETTE, WY – Roy Buchanan, Functional Health Coordinator with Campbell County Health’s Rehabilitation Services, completed his Masters of Science in Kinesiology from AT Still University in Mesa, Arizona. Roy has worked with CCH since 2011.
Roy designs and conducts Gillette’s longest standing Strength and Conditioning Program, formerly known as EXCEL. Roy works in tandem with Samantha Brant to accommodate participants of all ages, abilities and sports in the program.
“Roy is an extremely knowledgeable clinician and far exceeds the training of most in these positions,” says Rehabilitation Services Director Shannon Sorenson. “Roy is excited and eager to bring our community the most effective and evidenced-based exercise programming techniques and methodologies to athletes.”
The ATSU master’s program in exercise science and kinesiology offers an experience-based curriculum that prepares students to be leaders in advanced kinesiology, with expertise in functional anatomy, physiology, human movement, behavior change, functional assessment, fitness and exercise program design. The 42-45 credit hour program requires following a specific course work track and completing one of five specialty certificate course groupings—Roy completed the Corrective Exercise and Orthopedic Rehabilitation along with the Sports Conditioning tracks.
“When an athlete’s strong work ethic marries with intelligent, knowledgeable, and experienced coaching and training practices, something remarkable is on track to happen,” says Roy. “I am happy to be able to meet these individuals half-way, and provide them the precise direction that they need. That is a strength and conditioning coach’s job.”
The Strength and Conditioning sessions are offered year round for both youth and adults at Rehabilitation Services. Summer sessions are underway; call 307-688-6009 to register. Learn more at www.cchwyo.org/scp.
