Caregiving Conference on Saturday, May 18, 2019

GILLETTE, WY – The Legacy Living and Rehabilitation Center is hosting the Northeast Wyoming Caregiver Conference on Saturday, May 18 at The Legacy, 1000 S. Douglas Highway in Gillette, Wyoming, from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm. The seminar is free and open to anyone who provides caregiving for friends and family near or far, directly or indirectly. Continental breakfast and light lunch is provided at the conference.
In addition to the conference, Primrose Retirement Communities, with the sponsorship of the Alzheimer’s Association-Wyoming Chapter is providing free respite care to the first 15 registrants to allow caregivers to attend the conference while providing a safe and caring environment for their loved ones. Activities, snacks and a light lunch will be provided by professional caregivers at Primrose Retirement, 921 Mountain Meadow Drive Gillette, WY 82716. The respite care service is not able to give medications, handle feeding tubes, provide direct nursing care or a locked door environment.
Bruce Roosa, Caregiver Support Group co-facilitator and experienced caregiver often talks about “caregiving as a precious gift and a journey he wouldn’t give to anyone else.” Bruce also knows first-hand how caregiving can take a toll on the caregiver, as he and his wife, Barb, cared for his mother for numerous years before she passed.
Presenters include:
- Brian Edwards, licensed family and marriage therapist who will be speaking on the importance of self-care for caregivers including exhaustion and burnout
- Jim Edwards, attorney, who will cover legal implications of caregiving including wills, power of attorney, trusts, Medicaid/Medicare and more
- Beth Holden, occupational therapist will discuss safe home settings and activities of daily living management
- Caregiver Panel – present and past caregivers share their journey and answer questions
