Campbell County Health is proud of its employees, and we want the CCH family and the Campbell County community to know about the good work that they do for this organization.
Say hello to Leslea King, who is a Registered Nurse (RN) on the Campbell County Memorial Hospital Medical-Surgical Unit in Gillette, Wyoming. She’s worked for CCH since September 2014 and earned her degree at Gillette College. For those who don’t know, Med/Surg nurses practice in a stimulating, and demanding, setting. Many will say it’s not for the faint-hearted, but the work is very rewarding. Nurses on this unit can care for patients across many age levels, with a huge variety of disease categories or injuries, and with different degrees of acuity. The must be knowledgeable about all age groups, from infants to geriatrics, which can make working on the unit a challenge because of the variety of the patients.
Leslea chose a career in health care because her mother got very sick when she was young. “I cared for her while she healed at home. She referred to me as her little nurse,” she says. “I’ve always enjoyed caring for people when they were ill or needed me most.”
When asked about her health care hero, Leslea mentioned Rocky Reno, RN, who also works on the Med/Surg Unit. “We worked together on Med/Surg when I started as a new grad on the floor. She always inspired me to create a special bond with each of my patients. She made work fun, always had a smile on her face no matter what, and her laugh is so contagious! You just can’t help but be in a good mood when Rocky is around. I enjoyed listening to her stories from her years of experience as a nurse,” she says.
When she’s not at work, Leslea enjoys spending every spare minute she has with her two beautiful daughters. “My children as my life,” she says. “My oldest is active in sports so we spend a lot of family time supporting her. We also enjoy camping and being outdoors together whether in the backyard or the lake. In fact, we just returned from Flaming Gorge.”
We asked Leslea what she likes most about working for CCH, and what excellence every day means to her. Check out her response:
“In my department I enjoy the diversity of care we provide from pediatric to geriatric patients, and both medical and surgical patients. Every day and every patient is different; you never know what will be next! Nothing beats hearing how much someone appreciates your hard work, and that you are a great nurse. It is what I’ve spent years of my life trying to achieve, and I sit back and reflect on how I’ve finally made it!
Excellence every day means that I come to work with a smile on my face, I try my hardest to provide the best care possible to my patients and I work as a team member to get the job done.”
Thank you, Leslea for your dedication to our patients. We are proud to have you on our team.
