Thanks For Working Here This Week: Mayra Garcia, CNA, CCMH Medical/surgical Unit

Campbell County Health is proud of its employees, and we want the CCH family and the Campbell County community to know about the good work that they do for this organization.

Introducing Mayra Garcia who works at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital Medical/Surgical Unit as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Medication Aide (MA-C) in Gillette, Wyoming. Mayra has worked for CCH for more than five years, and hopes to go back to school to further her education.

For those who don’t know, a MA-C is a certified nursing assistant (CNA) who has completed additional classroom training to be certified to dispense medications to patients while working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Training is usually 4 months, and includes 140 hours of supervised clinical practice. These essential employees work in conjunction with nurses and physicians to provide basic care for our patients, attending to their personal needs and comfort. CNAs responsibilities include maintaining patient hygiene, supporting doctors and nurses in medical procedures and technical treatments, patient charting, and explaining care instructions to patients. And CNAs who practice in Med/Surg units are in a very demanding setting. CNAs on this unit care for patients across many age levels, with a huge variety of disease categories or injuries, and with different degrees of acuity.

Mayra says that “being available to help others” is part of what inspired her to get started in healthcare. She also loves that nursing offers the opportunity to work in many different departments and any place in the country. She takes pride in knowing that our patients trust her to take care of them.

When asked who her healthcare hero was, Mayra names Elizabeth Ciravolo, who was one of the first employees at CCH that Mayra relied on. Mayra worked with Elizabeth at Pioneer Manor and the Legacy before transferring to the Med/Surg Unit. “She taught me so many things, training me when I started as a brand new CNA and as a Med Aide,” she says.

When Mayra isn’t taking care of patients at CCMH, she is spending time with her family. During the summer, she likes to hike, and enjoys trips to Colorado Springs to spend time with family there.

We asked Mayra what she likes most about working for CCH, and what excellence every day means to her. Check out her response:

“The Med/Surg team is one of the best teams I’ve been on at CCMH. I know that I can count on my nurses and ask for the help I may need, and that they’ll do everything they can to make sure I get that help. This also means that our patients know that they can trust me to take care of them. We have a great hospital in our community. I’m so proud to be part of CCMH where we provide Excellence Every Day.

To me excellence every day means that we could provide the care everyone deserves. I work hard to treat our patients with respect and dignity.”

We are proud of you, Mayra! Thank you for being part of our CCH family and for the respect you show our patients!
