Campbell County Health is proud of its employees, and we want the CCH family and the Campbell County community to know about the good work that they do for this organization.
Introducing Marcia Saunders, RN, who works in the Professional Development department at Campbell County Memorial Hospital. Marcia first tested out a career in health care as a Candy Striper when she was 16 years old. She later went to nursing school at Grossmont College in San Diego, Calif., and has been a nurse for 27 years—with 16 of those years at CCH.
For those who don’t know, Marcia is part of a team at CCH that provides annual compliance education, continuing education and assistance with formal education and certificates for all of CCH’s employees. The department partners with several community colleges and universities to offer students clinical experience. Our Health Sciences Education Center is located on the Gillette College campus and provides CCH with the ability to hold several classes concurrently.
When she was 28 years old, Marcia’s dad had a massive heart attack, and that inspired her to become a nurse. “He was in a coma for several days before he died. The nurses in the ICU talked to us constantly about what was happening. They cried with us every step of the way. They were amazing in their attention to every detail of what was happening to my father and to us as a family and helping us make the most difficult decision any family has to make,” she said.
Marcia named AJ as her health care hero. “AJ trained me as a home care nurse. I had been a nurse in oncology for a couple of years and that was my only experience. She was so patient and very knowledgeable and adaptable to any situation always available for any question or concern I had. She always kept her sense of humor and laughed rather than loose her cool in any situation. A great friend and role model,” she says.
When Marcia isn’t at work, she loves to be outside, camping in the mountains or enjoying a hotel at the beach. She also enjoys yard work and working in her garden. “I am also learning to have fun with power tools and doing repairs to my house,” she says.
We asked Marcia what she likes most about working for CCH, and what excellence every day means to her. Check out her response:
“I love the team work and friendship in our department we all work well together and enjoy working together.
Excellence every day means always doing your very best, going above and doing more than you thought you were capable of doing.”
Thank you, Marcia, for being a part of our team. We appreciate you!
