Thanks for working here this week: Marla Leat, BSRT, RRT, Respiratory Therapy

Campbell County Health is proud of its employees, and we want the CCH family and the Campbell County community to know about the good work that they do for this organization.

Allow us to introduce Marla Leat, BSRT, RRT, a Registered Respiratory Therapist at Campbell County Memorial Hospital in Gillette, Wyoming. Marla earned certifications and instructs the Neonatal Resuscitation Program and pediatric advanced life support (PALS), and earned her Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT). In the seven years she has been in the Respiratory Therapy department, Marla has learned how to provide respiratory therapy in all the inpatient areas of CCMH, and has trained in outpatient procedures and pulmonary rehabilitation.

For those who don't know, Respiratory Therapy provides comprehensive care and testing for patients suffering from breathing disorders caused by heart or lung disease.

As a child, Marla loved forensic science and healthcare shows. “As I grew up, I became fascinated with human biology and knew I wanted hold a position in healthcare. Once I started college, I met a respiratory therapy instructor and I knew my future was to be a Respiratory Therapist,” she says.

Marla’s hero is her mother. “My biggest supporter has always been my mother. She may not have known all the medical terminology or healthcare processes, but she sure helped keep my spirits up when I felt down and made one amazing study partner. She always knew how to put a different perspective on my frustrations as well as—have an outsider’s pint of view. Without my mother I could have never grown to become the respiratory therapist I am today,” she says.

In her department, Marla enjoys decorating the bulletin board with festive décor as often as she has time. “I feel having something fun too look at helps keep a positive environment for employees and patients,” she says. When she’s not at work, Marla enjoys riding dirt bikes with her husband and son, as well as crafting with her mom and grandmother.

We asked Marla what she likes most about working for CCH, and what excellence every day means to her. Check out her response:

“I feel our department has been through many tough times together, especially though this COVID pandemic, and we have used these tough times to build an amazing team.

To me excellence every day means no matter how difficult our day is as healthcare workers, we try to greet every patient with a smile and treat them as if they are our only priority. Although this often seems impossible, especially though COVID, we must all try our best to meet this expectation.”

Thank you, Marla for treating our patients with top-notch care. We are proud to have you on our team.
