Update November 3: Elective surgeries at CCMH will remain closed through November 13, 2021.
We encourage you to read this Wyoming Public Radio & Media article shared October 29, Elective surgeries delayed, canceled across Wyoming as hospitals remain full.
However, we wanted to share some great information from the article in this post:
Please know that from Cheyenne to Sheridan, Casper to Rock Springs, hospitals across the state are monitoring their capacity on a day-to-day basis. Many Wyoming hospitals are facing staffing shortages. At the same time, those hospitals are filling up with mostly unvaccinated COVID patients and even non-COVID patients with serious conditions. And in the United States, where one's insurance greatly impacts one's healthcare decisions, lots of people are trying to fit in any procedures they need before their deductible resets in January.
Many people across Wyoming are having to put their lives on hold, dealing with the pain of a faulty hip that needs replacement, a uterus that needs removing, or a bladder that needs fixing. There are even some cardiac procedures that fall under the banner of "elective" surgeries.
Elective surgeries would still be happening if COVID patients weren't overwhelming hospitals. Hospitalized COVID patients require a longer stay than most others.
Wyoming is one of the least vaccinated states in the nation. Health officials say upping the vaccination rate would reduce transmission, put fewer people in the hospital and relieve hospitals of this extra burden.
CCH encourages you to talk with your health care provider about the COVID-19 vaccine. To learn where you can get a COVID-19 vaccine in Campbell County, Wyoming, or for more information about COVID-19 vaccines, please visit www.cchwyo.org/c19vaccine.

Campbell County Health (CCH) is cancelling elective surgeries at Campbell County Memorial Hospital starting Monday, October 25, 2021 to ensure that inpatient beds are available for emergent admissions, and enable staff to be reassigned to work in the areas of greatest need in the organization.
Emergent surgeries will continue to be performed. Surgical capacity will be evaluated on a weekly basis, with a goal of returning to performing inpatient and outpatient elective surgeries as soon as possible.
Patients should consult their surgeon with questions on the status of any scheduled surgeries.
