Neurology Specialist Now Available At The CCMG Main Clinic

Board certified neurologist Dr. Thomas Mayer is now seeing patients at Campbell County Medical Group’s Main Clinic. Neurologists are specialists who treat diseases of the brain and spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles. Dr. Mayer sees patients with neurological conditions including headache disorders such as migraine, epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer’s disease. He also performs tests like Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS), which can help define if a patient has a disorder of the muscles, nerves, or both. 

Dr. Mayer attended medical school and completed his residency in Neurology at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, IN. He has practiced in Sheridan, Wyoming since 2003.

“I’ve been coming to Gillette for the last two or three years,” said Dr. Mayer. “I think this new location at the Main Clinic will make it easier for patients, especially those who would otherwise have to travel to Sheridan to see me.”

Dr. Mayer plans to be in Gillette two days per week, and will continue his practice in Sheridan and monthly outreach clinic in Cody. Patients who want to see Dr. Mayer should first see their primary care provider for a referral.

“A primary care provider knows their patient’s history and overall health, and can work with them to help determine if the problem is something that should be seen by a neurologist,” said Dr. Mayer.

According to Dr. Mayer, it’s an exciting time to practice neurology because of the many new treatments and therapies available. New therapies for migraine, MS and other conditions give patients options they didn’t have even a few years ago.

“While we can’t cure every neurological condition, we are seeing improvements in our ability to diagnose and treat many neurological conditions,'' said Dr. Mayer.

When he’s not practicing medicine, Dr. Mayer enjoys golf, skiing and traveling with his wife JoAnn and their three children.
