CCH to Implement Visitor Restrictions

Ensuring the Safety of Vulnerable Populations Susceptible to RSV

GILLETTE, Wyo. – Nov. 22, 2022 – In response to rising Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) cases across the country, including Campbell County, visitor restrictions at CCH will go into effect today.

Here is what you need to know:

  • Children under 12 will not be permitted to visit patients in inpatient care areas (Maternal-Child, Med/Surg, and ICU)
  • Masking is encouraged for all permitted visitors when in areas with immunocompromised patients.
  • Permitted visitors with respiratory illness symptoms/fevers are highly encouraged to not visit patients within the hospital.

RSV is a very common respiratory virus that seasonally results in increased outpatient visits and hospitalizations in children. However, infection rates this year are unprecedented, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Despite how common it is, RSV poses a significant risk of serious illness for the youngest, oldest, and immunocompromised populations.

"We know how hard visitor restrictions can be on our community members," said CCH Director of Infection Prevention Sherry Bailey. "With pediatric ICUs at capacity across the country and a gradual uptick within our community, our job is to ensure that our community's children, newborns, and other vulnerable populations are not exposed to RSV."

CCH will keep the community updated on this evolving situation and will lift restrictions as soon as it is safe to do so. CCH thanks the community for their understanding, compassion, and patience as we work to ensure our patients' and their families' health and safety.
