Meet Sue White, registered nurse in the Medical Surgical Unit. She has worked at CCH for 1 ½ years.
Medical Surgical, or Med Surg units serve the general patient population hospitalized for various causes, such as illness, surgery, testing, or observation. Med Surg nursing staff collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and physical, occupational, speech, and respiratory therapists to provide each patient with the care they need.
Sue was inspired to work in healthcare by her brother, who was born with a disability. Sue says, “My brother's love of life and special needs drove both my compassion and curiosity for nursing and caregiving.”
Sue’s Aunt Mary Jean is her healthcare hero.
“She worked several years in the Air Force as a flight nurse, managed her own home health company, and worked as an infectious disease nurse and taught nursing towards the end of her career,” said Sue. “She always had all the answers, and used her humor, knowledge, and years of experience to both command her staff and ensure that her patients had the best healthcare experience and health outcomes. She always viewed her patients as multifaceted individuals and catered to all of their needs: spiritual, physical, and mental.”
Sue really enjoys the fast-paced environment and learning opportunities she encounters every day. She says, “Med Surg helps me grow and learn from my fellow nurses, doctors, and patients. I continue to benefit from these relationships both personally and professionally.”
To Sue, “Excellence Every Day means giving my patients the most skilled and compassionate care I am capable of, and using our interdisciplinary team to give the care I cannot. My fellow nurses over this last year have not only become close co-workers, but family. Without my work family I would be lost. I also adore all my lovely patients and love learning about their conditions and personal lives.”
"Sue is a loyal and steadfast Med Surg nurse who is known for her creative thinking and remaining calm and unrufflable in difficult situations," said Laura Castellanos, Manager of ICU and Med Surg. "She has a knack for gaining the patient's trust and is well remembered by them after discharge for her nursing care and an ear to listen. Sue, you are a significant member of our Med Surg team, and we couldn’t imagine our team being without you!"
When she’s not working, Sue loves to hike, do embroidery, and walk her corgi.
Thank you Sue, for taking great care of our patients every day at Campbell County Health. We appreciate all that you do.
