What’s New at CCH?

The CCH Radiology department is getting a brand new computerized tomography machine, or CT scanner. A CT scan combines a series of X-ray images taken from different angles around your body and uses computer processing to create cross-sectional images (slices) of the bones, blood vessels and soft tissues inside your body. CT scan images provide more-detailed information than plain X-rays.

To accommodate this new, state of the art machinery, we are in the midst of remodeling a portion of the Radiology department, adjacent to the Emergency department. Prior to the remodel, some emergency patients were transported through a public hallway to access the CT scanner, even though it was located adjacent to the Emergency department.

One of the most important things in a trauma situation is to get accurate information as quickly as possible, leading to quicker diagnoses and ultimately quicker treatment.

The new CT machine is a Siemens X-Cite model. It is designed to give clear and accurate images, while exposing patients to less radiation than earlier models. The new computerized tomography (CT) equipment will have the largest bore (opening) than any other machines at CCH. This means that it can accommodate larger patients with greater comfort.

The new equipment is scheduled for installation in early October, and used for patients around the end of October. We are consistently trying to improve CCH by providing a lifetime of care with dedication, skill and compassion.
