Spencer Buchan Selected for Journey Program

GILLETTE, Wyo. – March 22, 2023 – Spencer Buchan was recently selected to be part of Campbell County Health’s first Journey Program cohort. A Campbell County High School senior, Spencer, will join four other high school students who are aspiring healthcare professionals through this unique education program.

Spencer, who is a Gillette native, has always been interested in healthcare. His mother, who has been a nurse for longer than he can remember, has been the inspiration for his healthcare journey.

“Every time I got to see her working with patients it was really heartwarming,” said Buchan. “So I have had this passion [for healthcare] since I was very little and I have never wanted to do anything else.”

Spencer will begin his journey this summer when he will become a certified nursing assistant (CNA). Guiding his journey to become a registered nurse (RN) is his passion for patient care and helping patients and their families.

For Spencer, the Journey program represents an opportunity to chase his dream of becoming a nurse. Spencer is excited about the hands-on experience he will get to gather at CCH while pursuing his education, and he knows CCH will walk him through the process every step of the way.

“This [the Journey Program] is a huge opportunity,” said Buchan. “They [CCH] will walk me step by step through the process of becoming a nurse. It’s really cool and exciting that I get to work here and get hands-on experience while I go to school.

When not working or at school, Spencer likes to hang out with his friends and his family. Spencer also enjoys playing video games when he has the time, in fact, at school he is part of an esports club.

The Journey Program is a multi-year program that pairs education and job training. The 2023 cohort will enroll in professional development programs at CCH, and CCH will pay for their college classes and materials. Stay tuned for more feature stories on these amazing students!
