Campbell County Health among best in the nation at serving its patients and community, according to healthcare think tank

GILLETTE, Wyo. - Aug 22, 2024 - Campbell County Health has been recognized by the Lown Institute for outstanding social responsibility, receiving an “A” grade on the 2024-25 Lown Institute Hospitals Index. Campbell County Health achieved this honor through strong performance across metrics of health equity, patient outcomes, and value of care, out of more than 3,500 hospitals nationwide.

Campbell County Health’s efforts are grounded in the core values of care, people, service, and business. One of the organization’s focuses over the past year has been enhancing pay equity. Pay equity is more than just a policy; it is a fundamental focus on people and key to CCH’s efforts to attract, retain, and empower the best healthcare talent for its community. CCH emphasizes care and service through its proactive approach to avoiding overuse, ensuring it honors its mission to deliver a lifetime of care that is both effective and efficient. At the same time, CCH remains dedicated to balancing the business needs of the organization with social responsibility to ensure long-term sustainability and continued excellence.

Campbell County Health ranked 1 out of all acute care hospitals in Wyoming and in the top 200 nationally on the social responsibility metric. According to the Index, the hospital also performed exceptionally well on Lown’s health equity, value of care, patient satisfaction, pay equity, and avoiding overuse metrics – earning As in each category. These are independent rankings and hospitals do not apply or pay to be listed.

“We have been working hard to enhance our care and set the standard for excellence in Wyoming healthcare,” said CCH Chief Nursing Officer Natalie Tucker. “Among our recognitions from the Lown Institute we are especially proud to be the number one hospital in Wyoming for social responsibility, pay equity, health equity, community benefit, and avoidance of overuse. When we say we want CCH to be the first choice for healthcare and wellness in Wyoming we mean it – and we are fulfilling that vision.”

“Great care is only great if everyone can access it,” said Vikas Saini, MD, president of the Lown Institute. “We need hospitals that are not only leaders in clinical care, but also strong community partners—and these socially responsible hospitals are showing the way.”

The Lown Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility is the only ranking to combine metrics of health equity and value of care alongside patient outcomes for more than 2,700 acute care and 800 critical access hospitals nationwide—offering a holistic view of hospitals as total community partners. In the fifth annual rankings, the 2024-25 Lown Index evaluates hospitals on over 50 measures including novel metrics such as community benefit, racial inclusivity, and avoidance of overuse. Data sources include Medicare fee-for-service and Medicare Advantage claims, CMS patient safety data and hospital cost reports, and IRS 990 forms, among others. Full methodology can be found on the Lown Index website.

The Lown Institute is an independent think tank, advocating bold ideas for a just and caring system for health. Learn more at www.LownHospitalsIndex.org.
