At 94, Jewell Lee is a beacon of joy, whose radiant smile lights up any room. She cherishes every moment, sharing her love, creativity, and a rich family legacy. Jewell’s greatest pride is in her family: five children, 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and three (soon to be four) great-great-grandchildren. Her children carry forward the values of love and devotion she has instilled in them. Jewell’s talents and passions have always been central to her life. A gifted artist and skilled quilter, her work has been celebrated at numerous shows. She co-owned "Hoots n Toots" with her daughter, Teri, where they crafted many quilting masterpieces and found great success. Each piece, whether hand-stitched or painted with care, tells a unique story. Beyond her artistry, Jewell is known for her legendary green thumb. Her vibrant flower gardens were a sea of color, and she grew and sold a stunning array of flowers, including a special collection of irises dedicated to her mother, Iris. Her love for nature is reflected in her beautiful bouquets, where every bloom is a reminder of the warmth she brings to the world. Beyond her artistic talents, Jewell’s love and wisdom have shaped her family. “Mom always made us feel special,” says Gail, Jewell’s daughter, “She’s the reason we are who we are today.” Jewell loves spending time with family and friends, hosting gatherings centered around games and home-cooked meals. Even as her health had declined, she ensured holiday traditions were continued by making enough dough for 18 pies to share with her loved ones during upcoming gatherings. Earlier this year, Jewell entered hospice care. Supported by her family and hospice team, Jewell’s health improved and she was able to leave the program. In June, however, her health declined again, and Jewell re-entered hospice. This time, she and Gail were prepared, knowing the Campbel County Health (CCH) Hospice team would provide comfort and care, not just for Jewell, but for the family as well. Since joining the hospice program, Jewell and Gail have come to know the team as more than just healthcare providers and support, they are an integral part of their lives. The compassionate hospice nurses, aides, social worker and volunteers have become regular visitors, offering not only clinical care but emotional support and companionship. Through this, Jewell has been able to maintain the quality of life she cherishes, spending more time in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loved ones. For Gail, the care from CCH hospice has been a true gift. As a busy rancher, she has had the challenge of balancing the demands of the business with the care of her mother. Hospice allows Gail to step away for moments of respite, knowing her mother is being cared for by professionals who treat her with the utmost respect and kindness. “The hospice team has been a godsend,” says Gail. “They not only care for my mom, but they also support us emotionally, helping us live fully while giving us peace of mind.” Jewell and Gail have learned that hospice enhances quality of life, providing comfort and support, not only in the final days. “It’s about making sure my mom is comfortable,” says Gail, “and about me continuing my work, knowing she’s in good hands.” As Jewell and Gail continue this chapter of their journey together, they embrace each day with gratitude, knowing they have the support of CCH’s Hospice program. It is more than a service, it is a partnership, and for that, they are profoundly thankful. “The CCH Hospice team has been a blessing,” says Gail. “They’ve helped us cherish every moment we have together.” |
