Dr. Alexandra McClenahan Joins CCMG Family Medicine as a New Family Practice Provider

GILLETTE, Wyo. - Oct. 2, 2024 - Campbell County Medical Group (CCMG) is excited to welcome Dr. Alexandra McClenahan, MD, to the Family Medicine team. Dr. McClenahan brings a passion for patient advocacy and a love for the science of medicine, with a diverse background that enhances her ability to provide exceptional care to patients of all ages.
Originally from Canada, McClenahan has traveled and lived in metropolitan areas like Atlanta and Miami but ultimately chose Gillette for its tight-knit community and outdoor lifestyle, which perfectly suits her family’s interests. She and her husband, Dr. William Salmon, who will be joining CCH Behavioral Health Services as a psychiatrist, are excited to immerse themselves in the local community and embrace Wyoming's adventurous spirit.
McClenahan’s journey to family practice began with her love for science. With a master’s in biomedical science, she initially considered a career in laboratory work before deciding that she wanted to work more closely with people.
“I was doing PCR, DNA analysis, and all that fun science stuff, but I wondered, ‘where are all the people?’” she recalled. Ultimately, she decided medical school was the right path for her.
During medical school, McClenahan found that her interests spanned a variety of medical disciplines. Instead of focusing on a single specialty, she decided to pursue family practice which she saw as an opportunity to engage in her multiple areas of interest.
“I love minor surgical procedures, women’s health, delivering babies, working with children and adults—I love all of it,” she shared. “In family practice you get to do a little of everything.”
When not caring for patients, McClenahan and her husband enjoy an array of outdoor activities, including camping, skiing, snowmobiling, dirt biking, and running. Both are excited to explore the many recreational opportunities Gillette, and the surrounding region has to offer.
