Dr. William Salmon Joins CCH Behavioral Health Services as a Psychiatrist

GILLETTE, Wyo. - Oct. 3, 2024 - Campbell County Health (CCH) is excited to announce that Dr. William Salmon, MD, has joined the CCH Behavioral Health Services (BHS) team as a psychiatrist. With a deep passion for helping others and a commitment to breaking down the stigmas surrounding mental health, Dr. Salmon brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Northeast Wyoming region.
Originally from Canada, Salmon has traveled and lived in metropolitan areas like Atlanta and Miami but ultimately chose Gillette for its tight-knit community and outdoor lifestyle, which perfectly suits his family’s interests. He and his wife, Dr. Alexandra McClenahan, who will be joining CCMG Family Medicine as a family practice provider, are excited to immerse themselves in the local community and embrace Wyoming's adventurous spirit.
Salmon’s journey into psychiatry began during his undergraduate studies in psychology, where he initially planned to pursue a PhD and become a clinical therapist; however, a mentor exposed him to the biological and medical aspects of behavioral health, sparking his interest in becoming a psychiatrist.
“There were a lot of times I had seen people face the stigma surrounding mental health,” Salmon explained. “I’ve always recognized how difficult this can be, and I wanted to be a source of strength and hope for those who needed it most.”
Salmon finds the greatest reward in building relationships with his patients and guiding them toward improved well-being.
"When you build a relationship with a patient and bring them to a new way of living and help them feel better, that's truly rewarding—you can’t beat that.”
As a psychiatrist, Salmon values the ability to connect with individuals and understands that while everyone’s needs may differ, the goal is always to find a way to provide support and care.
“What I love about this work is seeing both the differences and similarities among us,” he shared. “There’s always a way to connect and a way to help.”
When not caring for patients, Dr. Salmon and his wife enjoy an array of outdoor activities, including camping, skiing, snowmobiling, dirt biking, and running. Both are excited to explore the many recreational opportunities Gillette, and the surrounding region has to offer.
