John McGee’s Road to Recovery with CCH Rehab Services

GILLETTE, Wyo. - Oct. 28, 2024 - As National Physical Therapy Month comes to a close, Campbell County Health (CCH) highlights the journey of John McGee, a patient who has experienced both inpatient and outpatient rehab services following a knee replacement surgery.

John underwent his knee replacement surgery in August, expecting recovery to be smooth. “I thought it [recovering from knee replacement surgery] would be pretty easy. It’s been more difficult than I expected,” John admitted.

Through the ups and downs of recovery, John found support in the compassionate care provided by CCH Rehab Services. “They make you feel so comfortable, even though you’re in pain. They work with you through the pain, they’ll push you and encourage you, but not too far,” he said, emphasizing the balance of motivation and care he has received.

John's journey began with an inpatient stay due to underlying heart issues that required additional monitoring. Although many knee replacement surgeries are done on an outpatient basis, John was admitted for monitoring “They kept me overnight, and the physical therapist was right up here working on me,” he shared. Upon discharge, he transitioned to outpatient rehab services, where he has been receiving care regularly ever since.

One of the aspects that stood out to John was the constant presence and support of the rehab team. The CCH team has been actively involved every step of the way. “There’s always staff around to help and guide you,” John said. “You get to know them all and when I’m here, they always stop by to say hi.”

John also appreciates the trust and confidentiality built with the therapists. “They’re compassionate, easy to talk to, and I know what I talk about with them stays between me and them.”

Throughout his recovery, John discovered challenges he hadn’t anticipated—such as staying hydrated and eating enough, on top of the more expected symptoms such as soreness. However, thanks to the support and guidance of the CCH rehab team, he continues to make progress and is excited to get back to the activities he loves, including golfing.

“The entire team is great—the physical therapists, the assistants, all of them,” he said.
