In Moments Like These...

It was a typical morning for Larry and Baerbel, two long-time residents of Gillette, Wyoming. But in the blink of an eye, everything changed. Larry collapsed at home, experiencing a grand mal seizure. Baerbel immediately dialed 911.

“I couldn’t believe it, within minutes, the EMS, fire, and police were right there,” Baerbel recalled, her voice filled with gratitude. “I could not have asked for a better response. In moments like these, you truly realize how fortunate we are to have these services in our community.”

Dawson and Celeste, the EMS responders who rushed to the scene, worked quickly to stabilize Larry and transport him to Campbell County Health. Once Larry arrived at the hospital, the care he received set him on the path to recovery. “They told me no driving for two months,” Larry said with a lighthearted chuckle.

Overwhelmed by the professionalism and compassion shown by the EMS team, both Larry and Baerbel’s gratitude grew stronger with each passing day. They knew they wanted to express their thanks in a meaningful way. They made a special trip to the EMS base in Gillette to meet Dawson and Celeste in person, the heroes who had come to their aid. With smiles and heartfelt handshakes, the couple thanked them for their swift and dedicated response during such a frightening time. “We wanted to say thank you. We are so grateful that they were there and so quickly,” Baerbel said. “You don’t always realize how much these services mean until you’re in a situation like this,” she continued. “We couldn’t have asked for better care.”

As a token of their appreciation, Larry and Baerbel made a generous donation to the Campbell County Health EMS team, a gesture to honor the life-saving care they had received. Though Larry’s recovery is ongoing, his spirits are high, and he remains thankful for the chance to heal. Baerbel, too, has found peace knowing that the community they’ve called home for so many years is filled with people like Dawson, Celeste, and the entire EMS, fire, and police teams, people who are always ready to help when they are needed most.

For Larry and Baerbel, the care Larry received wasn’t just about medical treatment; it was about the strength and compassion of a community coming together in a time of need. It is a sentiment they will carry with them every day, as Larry continues his journey toward recovery.

CCH would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to both Baerbel and Larry for their generous donation to our EMS department.
