Stress according to the dictionary, is defined as “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances."
Stress is a normal part of life, and there are events that happen around a person, and many things that a person may do to themselves to put additional stress on their mental, emotional, and physical state. Therefore, managing everyday stress with a positive approach is important to reduce negative symptoms of stressors.
The following are five tips that could help you manage stress:
- Talk to someone that you are not feeling stressed with. Call a friend or family member and share with them about what is stressing you out, and how you feel.
- Use positive coping skills such as: take deep breaths, use meditation, and walk away from the situation instead of reacting negatively.
- Cope with stress in a positive manner by participating in healthy activities, which can include exercising, reading, writing, painting, sports, listening to music, going to a movie, dancing, cooking, etc.
- Set boundaries. Saying no is OK!
- Eat healthy and get a full nights rest.
