Holly Hink is a Leader Reader at Conestoga!

On May 1, the Kid Clinic’s Holly Hink, APRN, was invited to be a Leader Reader at Mrs. McLaughin’s second grade class at Conestoga Elementary School in Gillette, Wyoming. Holly’s son, Jax, is in the class.

Leader Readers are local leaders secretly selected by the second grade teachers to read out loud to the children. This initiative allows the children to learn about members of our community, while also listening to some new books. In fact, the day that Holly read there were also athletes, a singer, an author, a medical assistant, and employee from the YES House who also read.

Holly read her favorite childhood book Corduroy, by Don Freeman. She then answered questions from the class about what reading means for my career and several other questions about what it’s like to be a nurse practitioner.

“Corduroy was one of my favorite books growing up,” says Holly. “He knew he was different and wanted to find his lost button because he thought that was why no one wanted to take him home to love him; but his sweet new friend loved him just the way he was and he found his forever home.”

Holly talked with the children about what reading means for her as a nurse practitioner. “Reading is very important for someone in medicine. I have to document medical records and then read them again. I always read medical journals and new research developing,” she says.

Holly Hink, APRN, CPNP, works at the Campbell County Medical Group Kid Clinic, a school-based pediatric clinic offering medical care for Campbell County, Wyoming. The clinic serves children ages 2 weeks to 18 years old; and counseling services for children 4 years old to 21 years old.
